Table

This table was
inspired by a symmetrical classical Roman mosaic floor.
Veneers are fiddleback Maple, ribbon-stripe Sapele,
Ribbon-Stripe Mahogany, and black-dyed pearwood.
The top has 896 pieces, with edge of the same veneer as the
top.

Archaeological Society Raffle Winner
The winner of the raffle, Don Schiffler of St. Cloud, asked
for a hall table, 52" x 15" x 29" high.
The center is an eight-piece bookmatch of Carpathian Elm
Burl surrounded by a 12-piece bookmatch of Black Walnut
Burl.

This photo is of
the assembled veneers, taped together and ready to be glued
to the substrate. Greater contrast will come out when the
panel is varnished.
The pattern is closer to the original Roman mosaic floor
than the offset table at top, and is composed of 604 pieces
of fiddleback Maple, ribbon-stripe Sapele,
and ribbon-stripe Mahogany. Completion of the table is
expected to be spring, 2010.
